THE REPUBLICAN 2024 PLATFORM
A Sanitized Version of Project 2025
Voters who have been paying attention are now well aware of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 – Mandate for Change. This radical 920-page document openly advocates for dismantling our federal government, turning over most national government functions to the private sector or the states, revising the constitution, and replacing our democracy with a neo-Christian autocracy. Although many of the authors of Project 2025 were members of Trump’s administration and the plan was previously endorsed by him, it has become so toxic and reviled that he now claims no knowledge of it, while also admitting that he thinks it includes some valid ideas.
Here is a simple rebuttal to the claim that Project 2025 does not represent what the MAGA Republicans plan to do if Trump is reelected: read the Republican National Committee’s official 2024 platform. It’s a quick read – only 16 pages, not counting the full-page color photos of their dear leader and other peripheral information. As might be expected, the platform focuses most of its attention on curing the imaginary ills that the MAGA Republicans claim now beset the country. The official platform of what was once a legitimate political party declares that the United States is a country in steep decline, that our cities are apocalyptic wastelands of crime and violence, that our country is being overrun with illegal immigrants, and that our economy is in ruins. Not only are these claims unsupported by the slightest whiff of evidence or reality but, in each case the reality is the exact opposite of these statements. Like everything coming from Trump and the MAGA Republicans, their official platform is based on both an alternative view of reality and boldfaced lies.
Today’s Republican party is a greater threat to our national security, our economy, and our personal freedom than are Russia, China, Al Qaeda, and Hezbollah. It is essential to our well-being that the entire MAGA movement be soundly defeated in the November election and that Trump be prosecuted for his attempts to overthrow our democracy. Every aspect of our national reality that causes us grief and needs to be addressed has at its core some action taken by the Republicans. Whether it’s gun violence, reproductive rights, childhood poverty, the national debt, high costs of food and housing, or many other issues, they can all be overcome once the MAGA obstructionism is removed.
Early voting has begun in some states and will begin soon in the rest. If you are able, please vote early in person. If that is inconvenient, fill out a mail-in ballot but, instead of trusting it to an unreliable mail system run by a MAGA Republican, hand carry your ballot to your municipal clerk’s office. Encourage your family and friends to do the same. And watch your expectations. Don’t lend energy to negative news. Expect a Blue Wave next month that will wash away the MAGA threat to our freedom and democracy and continue the nonpartisan form of governing that has been so successfully modeled by the Biden administration.
